Motive: Leaves of oak

The coins of 1, 2, and 5 cents show an oak twig, as shown in the former »Pfennig«.

Die Eiche war schon im 18. Jahrhundert in Deutschland wegen der Härte des Holzes und des großen Wuchses Symbol des Heldentums.
Die 1-, 2- und 5-Cent Münzen sind in Anlehnung an die bisherigen Pfennig-Münzen entstanden, wurden von Rolf Lederbogen entworfen

Motive: The Brandenburg Gate in Berlin

The coins of 10, 20 and 50 cents show the Brandenburg Gate, that symbolizes the division and subsequent reunification of Germany.

Das 1788-1791 erbaute Wahrzeichen der Stadt Berlin ist ebenso Symbol für die Teilung und Wiedervereinigung Deutschland, als auch Sinnbild für die europäische Einheit.
Die 10-, 20- und 50-Cent Münzen wurden nach einem Entwurf von Reinhart Heinsdorff gestaltet.

Motive: The Federal Eagle

The 1€ and 2€ coins feature the federal eagle, a traditional symbol of German sovereignty, set amid the stars of the European Union. On the edge of the 2€ coins we find the microlettering of "EINIGKEIT UND RECHT UND FREIHEIT" ("Unity and right and freedom") and as well the federal eagle.

Auf den 1- und 2-Euro-Münzen erscheint als traditionelles Symbol deutscher Souveränität der Bundesadler, umringt von den Sternen der Europäischen Union.
Der Entwurf stammt von Sneschana Russewa-Hoyer und Heinz Hoyer aus Berlin.
